Capsule Geology

The South Leduc occurrence lies 1.2 kilometres south of the Granduc ore deposit (104B 021) and the South Leduc Glacier.

The occurrence is located at the south end at the east boundary of the 120-metre-wide, north-trending South Unuk cataclastite zone (Lower Jurassic). The occurrence is hosted by banded biotite and/or chlorite schist, volcanic breccia, limestone, argillite, siltstone and quartzite of the Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation (Hazelton Group). The volcanics and sediments strike north and dip steeply west. All rocks are cut by Tertiary quartz diorite plutons and dikes.

Mineralization, consisting of chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, coarse-grained galena, pyrite, malachite, quartz and limonite is characterized by a large gossan zone. Mineralization is hosted in volcanic conglomerate thought to be the facies equivalents of the Granduc Mine series.

The Granduc area deposit type is considered to be volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits of the Besshi-type.

Work History

Granduc Mines Ltd. explored this South deposit area in 1961 and completed a 152-metre adit and a number of surface and underground drill holes. Drill hole 250 intersected two zones (A and B) assaying 3.84 per cent copper over the interval 143.7 metres to 157.8 metres (4.13 metres true thickness) and 3.27 per cent copper over the interval 204 metres to 211.5 metres (7.32 metres true thickness).

In 2005 and 2006, drilling on the South Leduc (South Zone) occurrence yielded intercepts including 2.57 per cent copper, 6.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.16 gram per tonne gold over 7.8 metres on the A zone in hole 2005-4, 2.13 per cent copper, 23.2 grams per tonne silver and 0.24 gram per tonne gold over 8.1 metres on the B zone in hole 2005-5 (McGuigan, P.J., Harrison, D.J. (2010-06-30): Technical Report – Granduc Property). The drilling programs indicated footwall mineralization over a distance of 150 metres along strike and 100 metres down dip.

Through diamond drilling in 2010 to 2012, Castle Resources connected the Main Zone and South Zone. Castle now considers both zones as one continuous orebody termed Main Zone. The South zone has now been incorporated into the resource with the extension of continuous mineralization lenses from the Main zone into the South zone Press Release, Castle Resources Inc., February 21, 2012).

Refer to Granduc (104B 021) for work history and 2012 reserves which are reported to contain ore from the South deposit.
